Located in Decatur, Georgia, Smithworks Iron & Design was founded in 2006 by artist blacksmith Jason A. Smith. As an artistic blacksmith shop we pride ourselves on attention to detail and client needs, while maintaining a solid track record of completing projects on time and within budget.
At Smithworks Iron & Design we work with forged, formed and fabricated steel to create commissioned one of a kind metalwork, including gates, rails, furniture and lighting. We create linear and organic forms with a great deal of fluidity, movement and texture. During the design process we work directly with the client to come up with a functional work of art that is unique to the setting and the individual. We pride ourselves on our flexibility with clients’ varying aesthetic sensibilities and are happy and willing to work in styles varying from classic to contemporary and everything in between. No project is too big or too small. We have experience with clients desiring works of all sizes ranging from large scale public artworks to corporate clients to families and individuals. Please contact us with any questions or if you would like us to send you a disk containing additional images of our sculptural and decorative work.
About the Artist:
Jason Smith is an artist blacksmith living with his wife and two children in Decatur, Georgia. Born in Charleston and raised in Columbia, South Carolina, Jason showed an early and passionate interest in art and making. He earned his Bachelors in Fine Art from the Corcoran College of Art and Design in Washington, D.C. An avid student of contemporary art, architecture and design, he uses his studies to inform the conceptual basis for his wide variety of successful creative projects. After several years working in large scale fabrication shops he was compelled to take his vision to a smaller and more creative model. He began his own blacksmithing company, Smithworks Iron & Design in 2006, which he runs from his backyard studio.
Along with juggling his roles as husband, father and custom ironworker, Jason takes the time to teach an ongoing blacksmithing class to 8th graders at a local school. Individual classes are also available upon request.
